  1. The country I picked is Greece.

    1. In Greece it is not uncommon that when you meet someone they may ask you more personal questions than you will be used to. These question are not meant as a disrespect quite on the contrary, they are just a way to celebrate a new friendship without formality.

    2. In Greece their sense of time is very relative. If a Greece native invites you into their home, it is not a big deal to them and they likely will not give you a specific time. They will say "come around twelve" and as long as you don't show up hours later there will be no problem.

    3. Once you are actually at their home, most Greeks are very laid back and so are their table manners. There will be a lot of discussions around the dinner table normally, and if you ask for seconds it is considered a compliment to the chef. But, if you offer to help set the table or wash dishes your willingness to help will get you a thanks but they will not let you help them.

    4. Eye contact is expected and appreciated in Greece. It is viewed as a sign of interest and respect to the speaker.

    5. There is no legal drinking age in Greece!!! Though, the minimum purchase age is 17.

  3. Some cultural norms for Cambodia are:
In Cambodia, if you oversleep, or don't wake at sunrise, you are considered to be lazy. the family sleeps together in one-two bedrooms. the parents leep at the head, and the children sleep at the foot.
To walk in Cambodia, you must tell someone when you are leaving and wen you will arrive back. Do not make sounds from your clothes or shoes, and must always walk appropriately.
You must learn the correct and polite way to sit in Cambodia. You must keep your legs together and straight, and never put your feet on others.
When you speak in Cambodia, you must speak softly and not shout. When you are at home, you can only show feelings there. You are limited on how much you speak and the dinner table, and not make rude or weird gestures at others.
When you dress in Cambodia, you need to dress appropriately and modestly. Men can only wear long-sleeve shirts and pants and nice shoes, but no T-shirts or sandals.
Women need to avoid wearing low-cut shirts, skirts and sleeveless blouses.

    4. The Russians except that their life is difficult and, put pride on themselves on being able to flourish in conditions that others could not.

  5. I chose Libya as my country.

    1. Couscous (cracked wheat), the national dish, is prepared in a spicy sauce of hot peppers, tomatoes, chick peas, and vegetables in season. All meals are eaten out of a communal bowl. Meals are of great symbolic importance; in the houses or the tents of prominent men, the major meal of the day rarely is taken without invited guests.
    2. Meals are prepared by the women of the household and served to guests by the young men of the household. Food is served on long low tables, tall enough to allow guests to sit cross legged and to belly up to the edge.
    3. Purdah, the custom of secluding and veiling women, is a traditional feature of Libyan cultural life. Groups of veiled women are still found in markets in the company of kinsmen. Women were traditionally placed in seclusion at puberty and appear in public veiled. They are only freed from this custom at an older age.
    4. Marriage arrangements require that siblings are married sequentially according to age.
    5. For a man to marry, he must be able to pay a "bride price" to the bride's family.

  6. The country I picked is Afghanistan.
    1. Women and men generally should not shake hands. However, if a woman extends her hand, it would be acceptable for a man to shake it.

    2. It is also considered rude not to remove your shoes when entering someone’s house.

    3. You should always come across as trying to be diplomatic when addressing any issues that could be potentially sensitive, and never act in a condescending manner.

    4. Afghanistan is also famous for making carpets and has been prominent in the industry for centuries.

    5. The most popular sport is Buzkahzi, where opposing teams on horseback attempt to place a goat carcass into the opponents goal. The literal meaning of Buzkahzi in Persian is “goat grabbing”. This is most often played on Fridays whilst most places of work are closed.

  7. The country I picked is Italy.
    1. In Italy every village has its own festival usually related to the the traditional food of the area. The best known are the chocolate festival of Turin and the truffle festival of Alba.
    2. Italians are very into hand gestures. They use their hands as much as they use their mouths.
    3. Italians are very close to their family and some don't even leave home until they are 30 years old!
    4. Many people in Italy are very superstitious. Many Italians try to stay in bed Friday the 17th.
    5. Unlike many other cultures, the luckiest number is 13! Many kids are given gold charms that are shaped like the number thirteen! Isn't that weird?

  8. The country I chose is Canada.
    1. In certain parts of Canada, that have more French influence, people greet each other with a kiss on each others cheeks, but most common way to greet someone is with a handshake.
    2. Manners are fairly informal in Canada, but you should still say please and thank you. If someone invites you to dinner at their house it is polite to bring a small gift like wine or chocolates.
    3. Canadians are extremely community-oriented people. Even though Canadians are individualistic in terms of their basic cultural traits the individual's responsibility to the community is immensely emphasized.
    4. In Canada you should not give white lilies for a gift, date, or with your get well soon card because white lilies are used for funerals.
    5. Finally in Canada you wait until invited before using someone's first name although Canadians tend to move to a first-name basis rapidly.

  9. I chose to research New Zealand.

-In New Zealand, punctuality is very important. Never be late, but if you are going to be late, call and inform them.
-New Zealanders are called Kiwis, like the endangered bird. They view everyone equally and do not discriminate. They don't like titles and will often move to a first-name bases quickly.
-It is illegal to use your car horn after 10:30 pm and before 7:30 am, and is considered impolite to make any sounds around others that would potentially annoy them.
-If you are invited over for dinner, you should bring a gift like flowers, or chocolate. Don't put your elbows on the table, and always wait until they tell you where to sit.
-Rugby is very popular in New Zealand. Rugby is a game with two teams of 13-15 players where players kick, throw, or run the ball into the end zone, to score as many points as possible. New Zealand's rugby team are the All Blacks.
